The Couch Nerd: Bag and Bored’s Weekly Television Report

FALL PREVIEW

Welcome to The Couch Nerd. This is Bag and Bored’s newest addition to our already wonderful site full of reviews on comics and entertainment. I am Galen and I will be your guide this fall as we explore the upcoming television shows that will definitely tickle your inner nerd. The most important thing to remember about television is exactly that! It’s television. So, no matter how wonderful and persuasive my writing skills may be there is no reason to go out and try to shoot someone with an arrow from a rooftop or try and solve the formula for the god particle. I’m just kidding. I highly recommend that you do what they do on television, especially if you can rock out pull-ups like Stephen Amell does in Arrow.

This fall, there are four shows (Arrow, The Walking Dead, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Big Bang Theory) that we will be looking at here at The Couch Nerd.

ARROW
The CW’s hottest new show ended on a devastating cliffhanger as half the city is left in destruction and Oliver Queen’s best friend is left dead in the rubble. Season 2 is going to be a real nail bitter as the hooded vigilante returns to your living room to bring justice to those that have failed Star City. The setting of Season 2 will most likely be months after the events of Season 1 with the occasional flashback to Oliver’s time on the island. There are several new characters that are expected to be a part of Season 2 such as Barry Allen (The Flash) in Episode 8 and 9, the Black Canary, and even Isabel Rochev.

There should be more great twist and turns in Season 2, but personally I am a little disappointed that Laurel is not going to be Black Canary and I want Oliver to have a kickin’ goatee. Regardless, Arrow should leave us scratching at the TV for just a little more.

Arrow returns to The CW on Wednesday, October 9, 2013!

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
If you haven’t figured out yet that ABC is going to have a Marvel television show then shame on you! Also, Agent Coulson is alive! Sorry for the exclamation marks, but this is huge and wonderful news for all us “Marvelites” out there. As the most tragic death to date in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Clark Gregg returns from the grave to play Coulson in what should be a wonderful fun TV series. With Joss Whedon at the helm of this project there is no doubt that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might be set up for a long series run.

All the trailers point to this series bringing a very humanistic aspect to the Marvel world. What really does go on in S.H.I.E.L.D.? Who really works for Nick Fury? And, why is the car named Lola? Well in just a few weeks you will be able to find out.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres on AVC on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 8/7 CT!

THE WALKING DEAD
Of all the new comic-related shows this year, I hate to say that I am least interested in this year’s The Walking Dead. After Season 3’s continual dragging on and drive away from the comic story, the less interested I have become. I understand that Robert Kirkman has always intended for the comics and the shows to be viewed as two separate entities, but I don’t really care what he intends. Just show more zombies and kill off the freaking governor already. Last year’s season finale was the biggest disappointment from a finale since the final episode of Seinfeld.

On the bright side, it looks like we might get more Michonne and Daryl in this season and that is something to look forward to. I will give my props to the writers for the detail that has been given to these two characters and both actors (Danai Gurira and Norman Reedus) really provide great depth to both parts.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, October 13, 2013!

THE BIG BANG THEORY
There is nothing to not love about the most popular sitcom on television. The Big Bang Theory is quickly becoming a part of American culture and loved by people all around the world. The end of last season left us with Leonard heading to the Artic to work on a research team funded by Stephen Hawkins. Also, a heart broken Raj opens up to Penny and speaks for the first time to a woman without having to consume alcohol. The humor factor will be high and light-hearted as our nerdy pals swing back into their seventh season!

The Big Bang Theory returns to CBS on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 8/7 CT!

That’s it for this week for The Couch Nerd. Be sure to check back every week this fall for rumors, spoilers, reviews, and updates on all your favorite shows! Until then, keep calm and watch out for the Tusken Raiders!
